In this situation, I controlled the camera by putting the shutter speed at 200, the f/ stop at 5.6, and the iso at 12800. To control the lighting I had lights on either side of the subject. Unfortunately my lights aren't professional so it was still very dark. I used photoshop to put the two pictures together and double expose them and bring the levels up and brighter. I considered angles by getting both sides of the face. When I took the picture I had the idea of putting the two sides of the face into the same picture. The composition technique I used in this photo was cropping. There was a lot of distractions in the background that I was able to get rid of through cropping. Originally I tried to use the rule of thirds in my picture, but after double exposing it I needed to crop it more and had to scan the rule of thirds idea. The mood from this photo is a sense of seriousness. The subject holds the viewers attention by the faces facing two different directions and having to focus on the two different facial details.
I controlled the photo by getting down low to the ground and close to all the subjects in the photo. I used photoshop to put 4 pictures into 1 big abstract image. I used Vibrance, Levels, and cropping to enhance the pictures as well. I considered distance and angles in my picture by getting close in all of them and shooting down from a downward angle on the subjects. the compositional elements I used were rule of thirds, light, and a frame within a frame. there isn't really a mood from this picture but it definitely holds the viewers attention as they try to decipher what the picture is and what is in it.
I was able to control the camera in this photo by getting a good angle of the stadium, and by only including the important parts of the stadium. I used photoshop to alter this photo by significantly increasing the vibrance, levels and brightness to create a photo that really pops. I took multiple pictures from different angles for this project but found this one to be the best due to all the information I could fit into this angle. Some composition techniques I used were lighting and rule of thirds. Because my angle were very limited, they're wasn't much I could do to control this image, but by choosing the right angle I could control the light and did what I could to make rule of thirds. This image grabs the viewers attention by all the bright colors in the image.

I controlled the camera by getting the right angle and the right back drop to get the shot of the frozen stick. The lighting was good because it was taken during the day at around 1. I used photoshop to increase levels, vibrance, contrast and crop to make the picture pop. when considering distance, and camera angle, I wanted to get a shot that only included the branch with the snow, and I knew that getting really close, would allow me to do that. I definitely utilized the rule of thirds, and cropping the image to make the branch and snow really stick out. Using these techniques allowed me to focus on a certain aspect of the branch and get a good focus point in the picture. My photo gives more of a saddened mood due to the colors and feel to the picture but it does so in a way that captures the viewers attention because of the great detail in it.
Term 1 Final Reflection
- If I could improve any project from this year it would be painting with light. In my opinion, after looking at classmates pictures, mine were significantly worse and honestly kind of bad. If I could do anything different, I would have used different tools for lights.
- My favorite assignment was the struck blind assignment. I really had a lot of fun taking my pictures out in the snow and at Gillette because those are two of the things I love the most about this state, that I'll be away from while at college. I had fun looking over how cool they looked at how well done they were.
- My least favorite assignment was the extraordinary assignment. While it was fun editing them, I didn't like turning photos into abstract and liked it better as just regular pictures that you could easily identify and still have a good picture.
- I grew as a photographer as now being able to fully operate my camera using manual mode. I now know what things do and how to use them and make photos look better. Being able to use manual mode and shutter speed will definitely effect how and what I take pictures of in the future.
- There isn't anything specific, but I'm always open to learning new things about photography
